Medulla

The medulla is a structure of the brain located in the brain stem. The brain stem begins just above the spinal cord and continues to the center of the brain. The brain stem is void of any cerebral functioning but instead controls lower level functioning. The medulla is primarily responsible for breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and coughing.
