Insane

The term “insane” is a strictly legal term for someone who has committed a crime but is judged not to have known the difference between right and wrong at the time the crime was committed. If the person is judged to not have known that the act was wrong when the act was committed, then that person is considered to have been “insane” at the time of the crime.
