Babor’s Type A–Type B distinction
a two-part typology used to group substance abusers, particularly those who abuse alcohol, for research purposes and to determine appropriate treatment options for them. Type A substance abusers have fewer childhood risk factors and start drinking or taking drugs later in life than Type B substance abusers, who have more severe problems related to their substance use, worse psychopathological functioning, and more stress.
