Acceptance Sampling

a process in which a random sample is chosen from a larger group of items and used to make a decision about the quality of the items in that group. It is often used in commerce to test the quality of merchandise in a batch: A random sample from the batch is inspected and the results used to determine whether the batch as a whole meets desired standards or whether it fails to meet standards and should be rejected as defective. Also called lot acceptance sampling.
