a global professional organization for eating disorders research, education, treatment, and prevention. It advocates for patients with eating disorders and the professionals who treat them, hosts an annual International Conference on Eating Disorders, and publishes the International Journal of Eating Disorders eight times a year. Intended for a wide membership of health care specialists, coverage includes epidemiology, psychobiology, sociology, and therapy of anorexia, bulimia, and other conditions involving atypical body weight regulation. The academy also has published the Annual Review of Eating Disorders Part 1 (2007) and Part 2 (2008), two clinically oriented books synthesizing the literature of the field, and has authored numerous position papers and media advisories. Founded in 1993, the AED is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois.
