Behavior contract

A behavior modification option whereby a student makes a formal written agreement with the therapist, educator, parent, or another interested party to attempt to reach a particular goal related to the specific target
behavior. Usually, the contract is created with the help of the child, and the goal, the possible reinforcers, and the criteria for reinforcement are all mutually agreed upon. The contract should include a clear definition
of the target behavior, as well as the positive consequences of meeting that goal and/or the negative consequences of failure to emit the target behavior. The contract should be clear about what adults and children are expected to do, and it should include a plan for maintaining the desired behavior. The contract is written, and both the adult and the child sign the contract. The idea is that this formal document will help motivate the child to change, as he/she has officially signed a commitment to reaching this particular goal.
